SQE Webinar – A global pathway for international learners

In this webinar, host Rebecca Ogunmayun is joined by current international SQE learners Dalia Sarhan and Fatimah Zahrah to discuss studying the SQE from overseas and how it can support internationals looking to qualify in English law.

Dalia, a qualified lawyer working as Senior Legal Counsel at Novartis in Switzerland, shares her thoughts on dual qualifying in English law via the SQE route and how the qualification is helping her to grow her competitive edge in the international legal market.

“The SQE offers you the route to get an internationally recognised qualification that is prestigious and very well regarded, not just in the UK but internationally. This opens doors for you if you want to become more competitive internationally, and also considering the role that English law plays in a lot of the international contracts and international disputes, being qualified in English law gives you a lot more credibility when you’re working on cross-border matters. So given that I’m already kind of working in the international space, it gives me a competitive edge.”

Fatimah, a Paralegal working in-house for a UAE-based energy company whilst studying in Germany, also gives us her perspective on studying to qualify in the UK from abroad and how she has found success in using English law to better understand international concepts.

“I think my experience of living and working in Dubai, it gave me that confidence when I realised that English law is directly applicable by certain offshore courts in the UAE. They have a mechanism of adopting foreign UK judgment. So learning about all of this made the SQE and qualifying in English law quite intriguing for me.”
