Access To Law SQE Scholarship

The Access To Law SQE Scholarship has been created to support future legal professionals from all backgrounds, who would have otherwise been unable to study law. 

At Law Training Centre we are advocates of social mobility and increased diversity within the legal profession. Our mission is to break down traditional barriers that prevent learners from accessing a legal education. Our goal is to widen access to careers within law and create a legal market that is diverse, flexible, multi-skilled, and reflective of current market demands. 

Our Access To Law SQE Scholarship is designed to be inclusive and help as many learners as possible.

Scholarship details

Our Access To Law SQE Scholarship is available for both SQE1 Prep Flexi-Learn and SQE2 Full Prep, supporting future lawyers to qualify as Solicitors of England and Wales via the SQE route with our most comprehensive preparation courses. 

Eligible applicants may apply for a scholarship for one or both courses. 

SQE1 Prep Flexi-Learn

The SQE1 assessment runs twice a year. Applications fall in line with these to ensure that successful applicants receive the maximum Flexi-Learn course access of 15 months.

Successful applicants will benefit from funding towards their SQE1 Prep Flexi-Learn tuition fees, receiving a £1,000 deduction of the course fee.

SQE2 Prep

The SQE2 assessment runs 4 times per year. Dates are combined to allow successful applicants to choose between two exam sittings whilst receiving the scholarship.

Successful applicants will receive a scholarship worth £1,000 towards their SQE2 Prep course fees.

Further application dates will be added as new SQE1 and SQE2 exam sittings are released by the SRA.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible to apply you must be able to demonstrate that you would not be able to afford the course without the Access To Law SQE Scholarship and that you meet one or more of the following criteria:

• You identify as part of a demographic/group that are under-represented within the legal profession.
• You are from a socially disadvantaged background.
• You are unable or have been previously unable to attend full time education or training due to work commitments, personal difficulties, caring responsibilities or health challenges.
• You have experienced unexpected hardship due to the effects of COVID-19.

You will then need to complete and return the Access To Law SQE Scholarship application form to [email protected].  

Applications for SQE1 open on 1 July 2024 and close 31 July 2024. Applications for SQE2 open on 1 September 2024 and close 14 September 2024.

Please note, the Access To Law SQE Scholarship will be available for new enrolments onto SQE1 Prep Flexi-Learn and SQE2 Full Prep only. We recommend you read our Scholarship Application Guidance prior to commencing the application process. 

Please note that any additional offers and discounts cannot be used in conjunction with our scholarships. 

How are scholarship applications assessed?

All applications are reviewed and considered by the Law Training Centre Scholarships Team to initially confirm eligibility. Eligible candidates’ applications will then be considered by the Academic Board and candidates will receive results of their application within 10 working days of submission.

Paying the remainder of your tuition

Candidates will be required to make an initial payment within 2 weeks of being offered the Access To Law SQE Scholarship in order to secure their grant. Failure to make such initial payment within 2 weeks could result in the scholarship offer being withdrawn. 

Candidates can select to pay the remaining balance for their SQE1 or SQE2 course either in full, or via interest-free instalments (subject to an admin fee). If your employer is paying the remainder of your balance, or you are applying for a professional qualification loan, please let us know when applying.
