The Immigration Advice Authority (IAA) (previously the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC)) regulates immigration advisers to ensure they are fit and competent, providing good practice and protecting clients from poor advice and exploitation.
Law Training Centre’s IAA Level 1 Training Course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the UK immigration system and the role of an immigration adviser. It covers the key areas of immigration law, including entry clearance, leave to remain, and asylum and human rights applications. Participants will also learn about the IAA Code of Standards and the ethical considerations involved in providing immigration advice.
Our unique course structure combines pre-recorded lectures and on-demand content, with live workshop sessions, and self-test and revision content to prepare you for your IAA Level 1 assessment.
The assessment must be booked directly through the IAA. In order to take the assessment you must first be registered.
Who is the course for?
The IAA Level 1 course is ideal for individuals looking to provide basic immigration advice and services. It’s suited for those starting in immigration advisory roles or seeking foundational knowledge in UK immigration laws. You do not need to hold a degree, do the SQE or be a solicitor.
The assessment must be booked directly through the IAA. In order to take the assessment you must first be registered.
You should normally have at least 3 months full time or the equivalent part time experience of providing UK immigration advice and services or 6 months full time or the equivalent part time experience of non-immigration advice giving (such as Welfare, Debt, Housing, Legal or Employment) along with an up-to-date training course in immigration law which covers each area of work you are applying for. Completing your own application to the Home Office or applications on behalf of friends or family will not be considered sufficient as work experience.
To book the IAA Level 1 exam you will need to complete a new adviser application and competence statement.
When can you enrol?
Each course begins one month before an assessment date allowing suitable access to aid your revision and preparation. In that time you will be required to attend six scheduled online workshops (total of 12 hours). All other study takes place through our interactive learning platform allowing for flexible on demand access. You should expect to spend two hours preparing for each workshop plus any additional revision time up to the assessment date.
