Introduction to Conveyancing is a short course which provides an excellent introduction to the basics of conveyancing. The course is accredited and certificated by the SQA.

Conveyancing is the process of transferring the ownership of land from the seller to the buyer. It is a legal transaction, usually involving many thousands of pounds and requires the technical input of a property law specialist, known as a conveyancer. It is the job of the conveyancer to put the practical process of a client moving from one house to another on the same day into a legal framework.

 

Who is this course for?

The course is designed for anyone who has an interest in the conveyancing process or who has a job which involves conveyancing. It will be of interest and relevance to:

  • anyone starting in a conveyancing dept
  • estate agents
  • those working in lettings
  • mortgage brokers
  • anyone with an interest in the property selling and buying process
What prior knowledge is needed for this course?

There is no requirement for any prior learning or qualification. The course explains in straightforward language how conveyancing affects clients, the key legal milestones, how a seller demonstrates that they own the land and an overview of the conveyancing process. It also considers in outline a major risk for conveyancers, that of cybercrime.

Course contents

The course consists of 4 topics:

  • What is conveyancing?
  • Office skills and professional conduct
  • What is title to land, freehold and leasehold?
  • Conveyancing process

Each topic contains an interactive e-learning activity with audio and text content, tasks to complete and knowledge check questions to assist in understanding.

 

How will I be assessed?

A final assessment must be completed which consists of a series of multiple-choice questions. The assessment is timed and can be completed at any time on the online learning environment. All attempts must take place within the course access period. For a certificate to be awarded on completion of the course at least 50% must be achieved in the final assessment.
