After starting her career in retail, where she found the monotony unfulfilling, Jack Coulton knew she was meant for more. She moved from retail to the hospitality industry, trying her hand at bar work and housekeeping, but still found herself restless. Searching for something that would spark her curiosity and fulfil her sense of purpose, she transitioned into secretarial roles, eventually working for law firms, where she got her first real taste of the legal world. It was here that her curiosity took flight – especially in conveyancing, where she could explore property details and the history of ownership, which fuelled her love for uncovering details and her natural curiosity.
Jack describes herself as “quite opinionated” and always drawn to knowing more about the world around her, making law a natural fit. While she briefly considered becoming an estate agent to satisfy her curiosity, she realised the legal aspects of property work suited her better. With this clarity, she committed to the journey of becoming a Licensed Conveyancer. But as she pursued her qualification with a different provider, she quickly discovered that not every training provider could meet her needs, and she struggled to get the guidance she required.
However, Jack’s journey took a positive turn when she discovered Law Training Centre through the Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC). She was drawn to Law Training Centre’s reputation for quality support and a flexible learning environment. The difference was immediate – at Law Training Centre Jack found clear coursework, responsive tutors and valuable resources. Her experience was a refreshing change, enabling her to pass exams she’d struggled with before.
With Law Training Centre’s support, Jack not only achieved her conveyancing qualifications but also expanded her expertise. Today, she’s a residential and commercial lawyer and is working toward her license in wills and probate. For her, Law Training Centre’s flexibility was a key advantage, allowing her to study around her work schedule. Whether logging in from her home office or even while camping, she enjoyed the freedom to study when it suited her best, helping her to balance her professional and personal life seamlessly.
Studying while working allowed Jack to integrate her learning into real-life situations, bridging theory and practice. The on-the-job model meant she could apply what she learned almost immediately, enhancing both her understanding and her confidence.
For Jack, the pursuit of law was always about more than just a career; it was about embodying values of justice and fairness. Inspired by leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela, Jack felt driven to achieve her legal qualifications despite the challenges. “If Mandela could emerge from prison ready to work in law, I could certainly study in my own comfortable surroundings and persevere,” she reflects.
When asked what advice she’d offer others considering law, Jack emphasises the importance of continuous learning and finding trusted sources of information. She encourages aspiring learners to seek out accredited resources, which Law Training Centre readily provides. Additionally, she highlights the importance of choosing a supportive workplace, one that will value their growth and encourage their progress.
Jack’s journey is a testament to her determination and passion for law. Today, she is proud of her accomplishments, working as a wills and probate trainee lawyer, and she’s excited for her next steps. As she continues her career, Jack reflects on how far she has come, grateful for the support and flexibility she found with Law Training Centre.
