Criminal Litigator Pathway

Achieve full practice rights in criminal litigation as a Chartered Legal Executive Litigator (Criminal Litigation), an authorised person under the Legal Services Act 2007.

Approved by CILEX Regulation, this qualification enables you to demonstrate that you have met the academic requirements of the CILEX Regulation New Education Standards. It then allows you to apply to CILEX Regulation for assessment of your experience and competence, leading to admission as a Chartered Legal Executive with practice rights for the conduct of litigation in criminal proceedings.

Steps to qualify

The Mazur ruling highlighted the importance of clarity around who is authorised to conduct litigation. This qualification provides the academic foundation required under the CILEX Regulation New Education Standards, and the course is designed to support you as you progress through the remaining steps needed to obtain full practice rights.

To qualify as a Chartered Legal Executive Litigator (Criminal Litigation), you will need to complete the following:

With the flexibility of on‑demand study, the Criminal Litigator Qualification can be completed alongside work, allowing you to accrue Qualifying Work Experience at the same time. Throughout your studies, the course provides structured guidance and academic support to help you prepare for the subsequent steps in the CILEX Regulation authorisation process.

Modules

Our fully online course supplements the published core reading from CILEX, offering current, practice-based directions, outlines, and discussion on everyday subject-specific matters to add value to each learner’s journey.

The modules to complete are split into 2 parts to align with the education standards framework provided by CILEX Regulation.

Core modules: There are 10 core modules to complete, which are designed to ensure that you have a met the common core expectations of technical legal knowledge in addition to any specialism.  The total qualification time for completion of all 10 modules is 1500 hours.

Exemptions

Our Chartered Legal Executive Pathway Qualifications do not require the achievement of a prior qualification. However, if you do have prior legal qualifications, you may be eligible for exemption from some modules.

Assessments

All assessment are exam based and are taken online via online proctoring.

The format of each assessment is:

For all assessments, 60% is required for pass.

Assessment windows take place 3 times a year.  (February, June, October)

Choose to pay in full or spread the cost over instalments (subject to eligibility).

Assessments take place in scheduled windows three times a year, helping you plan study and finances in advance

What’s included in the price: Online learning materials, tutor support, mock assessments, and one attempt at each exam within the course access period.

Additional fees (not included): Exam resits, CILEX Regulation fees and CILEX Membership fees.  Extensions or deferrals also incur additional fees.

Payments and instalments

Payments can be made by bank transfer or by card online. If taking advantage of our interest free instalment plan, a Direct Debit must be set up as part of the enrolment process and be kept in place until all payments have been made. Please note that failed Direct Debit payments will result in an administrative charge of £25.00 being made and course access suspended.
