Practice Rights Qualifications
A direct route to becoming a specialist lawyer with practice rights.

Build specialist legal knowledge and acquire the practice rights to take responsibility for your own cases in family, civil or criminal litigation, conveyancing or probate. Once authorised by CILEX Regulation, you can advise clients, manage your own caseload and conduct the work covered by your authorisation independently, without supervision by another lawyer.
Choose from five pathways: three leading to authorisation as a Chartered Legal Executive Litigator in family, civil or criminal litigation, and two leading to authorisation as a CILEX Practitioner in conveyancing or probate. These are Law Training Centre qualifications, approved by CILEX Regulation to meet the education requirements for authorisation in your chosen specialism. Study online around your work and other commitments.
To acquire practice rights, you must complete the qualification, meet the relevant experience, competence and suitability requirements, and obtain authorisation from CILEX Regulation. Independent practice is subject to your practising certificate and applicable regulatory requirements. Opening your own regulated firm requires separate firm authorisation.
