Where this takes you

What becoming a Chartered Legal Executive actually means
  • Your own cases
You become an authorised lawyer under the Legal Services Act 2007, with independent practice rights in your specialism, running your own cases and undertaking reserved legal activities, not supporting someone else’s practice.
  • Recognised professional status
Chartered status is a professional identity recognised across the legal sector. Chartered Legal Executives work as fee earners, case handlers and specialist lawyers in law firms, in-house teams and public bodies.
  • Room to keep growing
Add further practice rights over time, gain advocacy rights through an Advocacy Skills Course, and progress towards partnership, judicial roles or senior legal positions where Chartered status carries weight. In time, you can apply to run your own regulated practice.

You may be closer to authorisation than you think

Already qualified or experienced? You may not need the full pathway.Law degrees, CILEX qualifications and prior legal training can all earn exemptions, so tell us what you hold and we’ll confirm what you can skip, usually in one conversation.

Why this route

Specialise from day one

Your degree-level study goes into your chosen field, a family litigator studies family law and practice in depth, not subjects they will never use. Every hour of hard study is an hour in your future specialism.

No training contract. No pupillage.

There is no scramble for a training contract and no pupillage bottleneck. You qualify through recognised study plus qualifying employment, the requirements are in your hands, not a recruiter’s.

Earn while you qualify

There is no career break and no student-life costs. You work, you earn, and the same job builds the 2,300 hours of qualifying experience the regulator requires.

Assessment that fits real life

One unit at a time, online exams, three assessment windows a year, results within six weeks. Progress is steady and recoverable, a difficult month costs you a unit resit, not a year.

Wondering about the solicitor route instead?

We teach that too so our advisers will tell you straight which route fits your circumstances, not which course they happen to sell.
