Amina Drhourhi – turning loss into purpose through immigration law

Amina Drhourhi is an entrepreneur, mother and determined lawyer whose journey into law was born from personal tragedy and resilience. After the heartbreaking loss of her husband during the COVID-19 pandemic, Amina found herself navigating grief, immigration challenges and the overwhelming responsibility of managing her family’s future.

“I lost my late husband in COVID, but the experience itself was the reason why I chose to go through this pathway…I didn’t have time to grieve or to cry because I needed to carry on and deal with my immigration status.”

Following poor legal advice during a vulnerable time, Amina faced serious setbacks: “Because of his bad advice, my paperwork was messed up. My inheritance taxes were messed up.” It was this difficult experience that drove her to take control of her future, pursuing a career in immigration law.

Inspired to understand the legal system and protect others from similar situations, Amina enrolled with Law Training Centre on the IAA Level 1 Training Course. “I want to help people,” she told us. “I want to understand the rules and the law. And then if I can, I want to help people because of what I found at Law Training Centre.”

Her experience with Law Training Centre has been overwhelmingly positive, she tells us. “They only choose the best team, the best tutors, to deliver the course,” she explains. “The workshops were honestly the best live sessions I’d had in my journey with studying law. I just found myself very comfortable and very productive in the live sessions.”

Amina especially valued the learning structure and support.  “The team was amazing. If I had problems to log in, they will guide you and give you all the support.” She described the course as simple and practical: “It was like you’re putting the person in the kitchen…give them all the ingredients, all the instructions – just bake a cake. You have everything, all you need to do it.”

Support from her tutor was a highlight for Amina: “My tutors were always supportive. You can ask questions anytime you want during the live session. You don’t feel like it’s a tutor and a student. No, for me it was like a forum. We learn and we talk, we discuss cases, and she was always there to answer and reply to our questions.”

I don’t have enough words to say thank you to my teacher because she was really just helping us and showing us how to work each step. What you need to do, what you cannot do, how to answer.

Amina also highlighted the importance of mock tests, which helped her grow in confidence and practical skill.

Now, Amina is preparing for the next chapter: “With CILEX you can specialise in one particular area. So because of my training with Law Training Centre, I have confidence 100% that yes, I will be enrolling for the CILEX course to be a CILEX Lawyer in immigration,” she says with confidence.

“I don’t have words to describe how amazing the experience was,” she says. “I definitely recommend this course with Law Training Centre for anyone who wants to seek a career in immigration.”
