Advocacy Rights course
Develop your advocacy skills. Take the next step towards representing clients in court.
Advocacy Rights enable suitably qualified and authorised legal professionals to represent clients in specified court proceedings.
For Chartered Legal Executives working in litigation, gaining Advocacy Rights can provide an opportunity to develop courtroom advocacy skills, expand professional responsibilities and progress towards becoming a Chartered Legal Executive Advocate.
Advocacy Rights pathways
CILEX Regulation offers Advocacy Rights in three specialist areas:
- Civil Advocacy: represent clients in civil proceedings.
- Criminal Advocacy: represent clients in criminal proceedings.
- Family Advocacy: represent clients in family proceedings.
Civil and Family Advocacy Rights are available for judges’ room hearings or wider open-court advocacy. Criminal Advocacy Rights are available for open-court proceedings.
The scope of practice depends on the authorisation granted by CILEX Regulation.
