Emerging Notary Scholarship – Sussex Law Society

Law Training Centre is working in collaboration with the Sussex Law Society (SLS) to support and promote access to the notarial profession.

Law Training Centre is the Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s (FOAC) preferred provider of the Notarial Academic Training Course stage, with the second stage (Notarial Practice Course) being delivered by UCL.

As part of our partnership, Law Training Centre is pleased to be able to offer our Sussex Emerging Notary Scholarship to legal professionals in Sussex who are looking to start their journeys to qualifying as a Notary with the Notarial Academic Training Course.

This scholarship will fund up to £2,000 towards one learner’s Notarial Academic training, supporting them in completing the first stage of the FOAC’s notarial qualification process.

Scholarship details

Our Sussex Emerging Notary Scholarship aims to grant one aspiring notary with up to £2,000 of funding towards the Notarial Academic Training Course with Law Training Centre.

Applications must be submitted to [email protected] by 9 January 2026.

All applications must be submitted by the deadline using the application form and must be completed in full.  Incomplete applications and applications submitted in other formats will not be accepted.

The recipient of the scholarship will be notified on 23 January 2026 and will be required to accept the scholarship and enrol by 27 January 2026, or the scholarship will be offered to another applicant.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible to apply for the scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a member of the Sussex Law Society
  • Be a qualified lawyer with rights to practise in England and Wales (Solicitor, Licensed Conveyancer, Licensed Probate Practitioner, Chartered Legal Executive etc.)
  • Be committed to progressing to the University College London (UCL) training course in 2026 or 2027

How will the scholarship applications be assessed?

Applications will be reviewed and assessed by our Scholarships Team based on a range of criteria, including:

  • Career progression, passion and achievement
  • Your plan for success as a notary
  • Mentorship, networking and support for the legal community to widen participation and diversity in law
  • How you will fit your studies into your every day life to achieve success

How to apply

Applicants are required to download the application form below.  The application from will require you to complete a short written statement about why you believe you should receive the scholarship with reference to the assessment criteria provided.  This should be returned to us at [email protected].

The closing date for applications is midnight, 9 January 2026.

Shortlisted candidates will be notified on the 16th January 2026 and invited for an online interview in the to take place between 19th-21st January 2026.

The successful candidate will then be contacted by the Law Training Centre team on 23 January 2026, and will need to accept and enrol by 27 January. Failure to accept the scholarship and successfully enrol will result in the scholarship being offered to another applicant.

The successful candidate must enrol on our Notarial Academic Training Course within 3 months of receiving the scholarship.
