CILEX Professional Stage

The CPQ Professional stage builds on the knowledge acquired in the CPQ Advanced stage. At this stage there is one mandatory module and one elective in a chosen specialist area.

The mandatory module involves a Professional and Legal Skills work-based project. The elective module should reflect your area of practice in the workplace or area of practice in which qualifying Professional Experience is being achieved, and that you wish to achieve practising rights in. It should correspond with the Advanced module studied.

Who is the course for?

CPQ Professional is for learners who have completed the CPQ Advanced and is the next stage of the progression on the CPQ Framework, the route to becoming a CILEX Lawyer. A CILEX Lawyer is a CILEX member who has completed all three qualification stages of competence based CPQ, which includes compulsory Ethics and Professional Responsibility modules, and gained a minimum of 2300 hours of relevant legal experience.

If you already hold an LPC you will enter the CPQ Framework at the Professional stage. Please see the CILEX Graduate Qualification (CGQ) – LPC exemption.

We know that our learners need flexibility for course dates to fit around their work and life commitments. This is why you can enrol at any time. Please note that assessments take place in June and January each year and you should align your course start and access with your chosen exam windows.

The on-demand course materials and Video Library of previous workshops means that, no matter when you start, you will have access to the content and can move through the course at the pace that suits you.

A downloadable calendar, course overview and a range of study planner options to successfully plan and track your progress. Your tutor will also assist you in creating a study plan based on your personal and professional circumstances.

Recorded workshops

Recorded workshops to cover key topics. The workshops build on the content with the e-learning material and can be accessed on demand.

Self-test questions

Self-test questions allow you to assess your understanding and recollection of the topic content and establish any areas you need to revisit. On submission of each answer a suggested answer will be revealed which you compare your response to in order to assess your understanding.

Multiple choice questions (MCQs) to test your understanding of key topics.

Live tutor support

Subject forums

A monitored online forum where you can raise queries and interact with other learners on the course is provided for each subject area.

1:1 tutor support

48hr email response time from specialist tutors (Mon-Fri) to help with any course-related queries for each provided subject area.

Personal Academic Coach

Your 1:1 Personal Academic Coach will support you to stay on track not only providing academic support but also pastoral care, careers guidance, CV advice and guidance on how to balance studies and work life.

Live Q&A support sessions

CPQ Live Q&A Support Sessions run fortnightly and provide an opportunity to ask any questions you have in relation to the course or module you are studying and interact with other learners on the course.

Lexis+ UK

Lexis+ UK provides the largest collection of UK law, up-to-date legislation, case law, commentary and comprehensive practical guidance. Learners can also obtain Lexis+ certification for both Legal Research and Practical Guidance, nationally recognised by law firms and demonstrates expertise to future employers. Access will be provided to Lexis+ UK during the period of the course up to the completion of the final assessment.

How long does the qualification take?

CILEX gives an indication of reasonable Total Qualification Time (TQT) which is the number of hours of study that you could reasonably be expected to undertake to achieve the learning and assessment outcomes.

The TQT for the CPQ Professional Stage is 320 hours.

The overall amount of time the course takes will vary from learner to learner however with a total of 12 months course access you can study at your own pace. You will also have the flexibility to decide on the exam sitting date that will be best for you, whilst also considering the registration window ahead of the assessments.

CILEX Membership and Registration

CILEX Membership: To enrol on to CPQ Professional you must first be a member of CILEX. Learners registering for the CPQ Professional will be required to register as a CILEX Advanced Paralegal member. This is separate to the requirement to enrol on our course and is not included in the course fee.

CILEX Registration: Once you have joined CILEX as a member you will be able to register for the CILEX Professional stage and pay a fee to CILEX. CILEX will confirm your exemption and provide access to your myCILEX account. Included with the registration fee are the following features (as applicable to the stage):

Assessments are offered by CILEX twice a year in January and June and you must make your assessment bookings directly with CILEX.

The ‘like for like’ determination is at the discretion of Law Training Centre. For individual self-funding learners, the prices shown on this page are inclusive of VAT at the applicable rate. A VAT breakdown will be on your invoice/receipt. Where courses are purchased and invoiced to employers or organisations, the fees shown are exclusive of VAT, and VAT will be added to the invoice at the prevailing rate.

What will I need before I get started?

Minimum hardware requirements:

An Ethernet cable for maintaining internet stability

How do I enrol?

The Law Training Centre accepts applications throughout the year so that learners can start when it suits them most.

What happens after I complete my enrolment form?

Once received, your enrolment will be processed by our Student Services Team. If there are any queries at this stage, we will contact you.

Invoicing:
We will issue your invoice according to your chosen option – either self–sponsored or firm-sponsored. If you are paying by instalments, a separate Direct Debit mandate email will be sent out for you to complete online, you will need to set up both the Direct Debit and complete the initial payment. Once the invoice has been paid (or the Direct Debit set up if applicable) please notify us by return email.
Payment options:
You can pay by bank transfer to our account or by card using the payment link on your invoice. Cheques are accepted and your course login will be made live once the cheque has cleared into our bank account.
Course Login:
Once we have processed your payment and the 14-day cooling-off period has passed or has been waived, please allow up to 2 working days from the invoice being paid to being emailed your course login.
