For Abena Akoma Asante, a Ghanaian bilingual teacher and mother of three, the journey into the legal profession began when she decided to follow in the footsteps of her family of lawyers. “It attracted me. It felt like a magnet,” she says. Despite a successful background in teaching English and Spanish, Abena felt a pull toward law and decided to pursue her dreams.
Once she had decided she wanted to pursue law, Abena knew she didn’t want to go back to university and spend huge amounts of money on a law degree. So, the NALP Level 3 Diploma seemed like the perfect opportunity for her.

Now living in the UK and caring for her young family, Abena chose a practical and accessible route into law by enrolling on the NALP Level 3 Diploma with Law Training Centre. “I do not have a legal background, so I’m looking for a way to get in,” she explains. After researching her options online, she was drawn to Law Training Centre for its flexibility and affordability. “It’s not expensive at all. It’s very easy on the pocket.”
Abena highlights the course structure and tutor support as standout features. “It’s been great. It’s been exciting. It’s been engaging,” she says. And her appreciation for her tutors shines through: “Oh my goodness…I love my tutors. I admire the depth of knowledge they have. I love the fact that you can tell they want you to succeed.”
The flexibility of studying at her own pace has been vital, especially while raising her family. “As someone who is raising a toddler, it fits very well into that lifestyle”. With her fully flexible course, Abena has been able to study at night and on weekends, taking full advantage of the course’s adaptability.
Although not yet in the legal workforce, Abena is confident about her future. “I have no doubt that it’s going to really help me…I believe that once I get into that world, I will succeed.”
Abena’s advice to others considering a NALP course is straightforward: “They shouldn’t think too much about it. They should just go for it…it’s not difficult at all.” She has already recommended Law Training Centre to family and friends and she encourages anyone curious about law and a legal career to take the step. “Sometimes when I’m reading, I get so excited. I’m like, I feel like I’m a lawyer!”
