Removing barriers to studying law for our learners with disabilities

The 14th – 20th June is Learning Disability Week 2021. Law Training Centre is an avid supporter of creating progression and career pathways for all, and are taking the opportunity to remind learners of the support and assistance that is available to them, and the reasonable adjustments that can be made if required.

At Law Training Centre, we break down barriers to studying law, providing flexible and alternative pathways to qualification as a Solicitor, Lawyer, or Paralegal for all. This includes supporting our learners with learning and/or physical disabilities to make the most of their studies and to achieve their goals.

As an online training provider, all our courses already offer increased accessibility – enabling learners to study anytime or anywhere, with the additional flexibility of being self-paced.

However, we also recognise that if you have a disability, health condition, or specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia or dyscalculia, you may require certain reasonable adjustments in order to reduce any substantial disadvantage when it comes to an assessment situation.

Reasonable adjustments can include, but are not limited to:

  • allowing extra time, e.g. for completion of assignments or exam time extensions
  • using a different assessment location
  • use of coloured overlays
  • assessment material in large format
  • assessment material on coloured paper or in audio format

Reasonable adjustments provided vary depending on the circumstances of the individual learner and the assessment.

It is also worth noting that you must confirm any reasonable adjustments before booking your exam. For CLC courses this can be done directly with Law Training Centre, and for SQE or CILEx assessments this should be done via the SRA and CILEx respectively.

Our friendly and approachable Student Services team are always on hand to offer advice and guidance, and if you have a disability it is important to make us aware so that we can discuss the support that may be available for you.
