Prince2 Project Management Course & Methodologies - LTC

Business cycles come and go as do law firms – but there’s a constant: the level of competition within the legal profession is fierce and getting fiercer.
However, successful project management can give the professional legal practitioner the edge. It’s a business skill used in industries and professions across the globe: of all the available project management methods, PRINCE2® is the world’s most popular. If you don’t help manage a client’s project, you’re sitting on the sidelines in terms of client care.
Legal skills by themselves are not enough.

PRINCE2® is the gold-standard in project management methodologies.

A logical, approachable guide to successfully managing any project.

An adaptable approach – can be customised for any organisation or for any individual role involved in managing projects.

Recognised the world over, and so adding value to you and your business.

How does project management work?

Modern business strategies are delivered in projects. These are unique and finite, commissioned to achieve clearly defined objectives within agreed timescales and budgets. Project management is different from ongoing management and requires specific tools and techniques to apply processes, methods, knowledge, skills and experience to achieve what’s required. Project managers break up a project into tasks for their teams.

Who are our Prince2® courses for?

Our PRINCE2® courses are suitable for any legal organisation or individual working in a legal team or who is studying for a career in a legal organisation:

  • Any law student, lawyer or member of a firm (from support staff to managing partner) who wishes to acquire additional, essential skills for legal business
  • Those who have a leadership, practice management, project management or change management role
  • Dedicated project managers – or those assigned such a role
  • Heads of departments
  • Lawyers with the seniority to create and maintain business initiatives and to drive standards
  • Cross-functional teams within legal organisations

Frequently asked questions

Studying for PRINCE2® helps the students to do the following:
  • Define why a project is necessary.
  • Describe the requirements of a project; specify the quality it needs to deliver; estimate the resources required and the timescales involved.
  • Prepare a business case to justify time, effort and resources spent.
  • Create and put into effect a project management plan.
  • Create and use communications with all stakeholders using clear and commonly accepted terms.
  • Manage project boundaries.
  • Manage changes on a project.
  • Monitor progress against objectives.
  • Create and use a project budget.
  • Begin and end a project in a controlled fashion.
  • PRINCE2® is compatible with all other project management certifications but it is nonetheless unique. For instance, students will work to the bespoke seven PRINCE2® principles:
  • Continued business justification: there must be an explainable and defendable purpose in running and managing the project. If not, it must be closed.
  • Learn from experience: PRINCE2® project teams continually draw upon lessons learned from previous work.
  • Defined roles and responsibilities: the PRINCE2® project team should be clearly organised involving the right people in the right tasks.
  • Manage by stages: PRINCE2® means planning, monitoring and controlling step by step.
  • Manage by exception: those within the project need the authority to work effectively within it.
  • Focus on products: PRINCE2® focuses on defining the product, delivery and the quality required.
  • Tailor to suit the project environment: PRINCE2® must adapt to the environment and culture within which the project sits; it needs to be capable of being amended according to its size, complexity, importance, capability and risks.

  • PRINCE2® is successful because it creates a common language for all participants in a project and was created from feedback from users, project management specialists and a review panel of 150 public and private sector organizations.
You must be 18 or over to enrol and study with Law Training Centre.
It is the latest version of PRINCE2®, and we teach it as it puts more emphasis on tailoring PRINCE2® to the needs of organisations.
  • Reduced costs compared with a full classroom course.
  • Students can learn at their own pace.
  • Less time away from workplace for students.
  • Provides consistent training across multiple locations.
  • Training is easier to schedule.

PRINCE2® has two levels of certification: Foundation and Practitioner. All students of PRINCE2® 2017 can claim one year’s subscription to the My PRINCE2® CPD resource, use of which is one method of keeping your PRINCE2® Practitioner Certificate valid after three years. The other method involves re-sitting the Practitioner exam after three years of passing it originally. Learning for all Certificates is online.

    Foundation Certificate

The Foundation Certificate ensures its students can take a vital role within their organisations using the best practices of project management. It is also a prior condition for studying for the Practitioner Certificate.

By the end of the course students will be able to:

    • Describe the purpose and facets of all project management roles, the seven principles of PRINCE2® plus its seven themes and seven processes.
    • Identify which specialist products (e.g a marketing campaign) and which management products (e.g. a project plan or stage report) require input and output from the seven processes. Define the key reasons why you’d use each product and the criteria for their success.
    • State how the processes, deliverables, roles and the management dimensions of a project work together.

    Key Features

  • General principles
  • Key terms and phrases

Holders of the Practitioner Certificate will have the learning to formulate or – with support and direction – initiate project management strategies and plans within a legal organisation.

The Practitioner certificate is for those whose current role depends upon running projects or whose future role will involve that.
It’s also highly relevant for leaders who may not be hands-on with projects but who will manage project managers or otherwise encounter projects frequently.
Students of the PRINCE2® Practitioner examination need to hold a current certificate in one of the following:

    • PRINCE2® Foundation. Practitioners holding a current certificate will not be required to re-certify to the 2017 version
    • Project Management Professional (PMP)®
    • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)®
