Laura was voted Young Practitioner of The Year for the Todays Conveyancer Awards in May 2021 – a huge achievement on her part, showcasing her success and dedication to her job. Here’s how Laura used our CLC- Licensed Conveyancer course as a stepping-stone to advance in her career.

I started conveyancing and working as a legal secretary when I was 22 years old. I worked in residential, agricultural and commercial areas of law which gave me a wide range of experience within the legal sector. I also had some great colleagues who I learnt so much from.

As I grew more confident, I realised that I wanted to pursue a career in conveyancing and therefore I decided to take some law exams. I initially completed my conveyancing paralegal exams with another provider. However, I still wanted to study a course that will enhance my knowledge within conveyancing and help me progress up the career ladder!

I decided to move firms a few years later so that I could grow professionally and progress with my studies, at that stage I decided to embark on the CLC journey to become a Licensed Conveyancer with Law Training Centre.

I really enjoyed my studies with Law Training Centre. As I was taking my exams during the COVID19 pandemic, I utilised my furlough time well and took it as a positive to study hard during the months I was not able to work. I found that my tutors were so helpful when I was unsure of something, and they would always guide me through all my queries. My firm supported me through my studies, and it was rewarding to be able to utilise what I had learnt in exams to what I practice at work.

When I left school, I went to college but did not go on to university. I want other young people to know that you can still achieve your goals in life without going to university and there are lots of ways to take exams and qualify in your chosen careers.

I started off working in residential and new build within my new firm and then grew as a Conveyancing Executive to start running some of my own cases. I am now a fully qualified Licensed Conveyancer which I am very proud of; all the hard work paid off!

Now that I am qualified, I have been made Head of New Build at our firm, I run a varied desk of residential and new build transactions and I have an amazing team of support who work alongside me.

To all young people out there, anything is possible!
