What are the CILEx Level 3 Qualifications?

Online tutor supported distance learning for CILEx courses commence in January 2018. Please contact us to register your interest .

CILEx Level 3 qualifications are set and assessed at A level standard and provide the necessary skills and knowledge for students to become qualified paralegals.

The Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice is ideal for those with A levels or a non-law degree, or for paralegals or support staff wishing to take on a file-handling role in a specific area of legal practice. This qualification recognises the growing number of students who are either interested in a short but rounded introduction to law and practice, or have a specific learning requirement within an area of law and legal practice.

The Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice consists of five study units selected from a suite of 19 units listed below. Students may complete this qualification en route to the larger Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice, which has 10 study units.

The Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice is a broad-based, practical introduction to law and legal practice, and forms the first academic stage in the process of becoming a Chartered Legal Executive lawyer. This 10-unit qualification lets students adopt a flexible and tailor-made approach to learning. Whilst all students undertake a certain amount of core study, there is also room for students to take units which reflect their main areas of interest.

The Professional Skills study units require students to demonstrate key transferable legal skills in practical situations. The inclusion of these ensures that the qualification both reflects the pace of change in the legal sector and that CILEx students are well prepared to embrace this change.
Those working in a law firm who have successfully completed the Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice can have their fee-earning time charged out at grade D of the Guideline Hourly Rates.
Together, the Level 3 Certificate and Diploma in Law and Practice typically take around two years to complete.

Many students qualifying with the Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice go on to study CILEx Level 6 qualifications prior to becoming a Chartered Legal Executive lawyer.
